Manual Chiropractic Techniques
Utilising established clinical methods including Diversified and Thompson Drop Piece adjustments to support spinal health and joint mobility.
What are Manual Adjustments?
Manual chiropractic care involves the use of specific, controlled thrusts to restore motion to restricted joints. These techniques are among the most widely recognised and researched methods in the chiropractic profession.
Commonly used manual techniques at our clinic:
- Diversified Technique: A high-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) adjustment focused on restoring alignment.
- Thompson Drop Piece: Uses a specialized table to assist the adjustment through a mechanical 'drop' mechanism.
- Activator Method: A handheld instrument used for precise, low-force joint mobilisations.
- Extremity Adjusting: Manual care for shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles.
The Science of the 'Pop'
During a manual Diversified adjustment, you may hear a 'popping' or 'cracking' sound. This is known as joint cavitation—the release of gas bubbles from within the joint fluid as the joint space is momentarily opened.
This process is generally painless and often results in a feeling of increased mobility and reduced tension. Dr. Jan Jones performs a thorough assessment prior to any adjustment to ensure the technique is appropriate for your specific needs.
The Thompson Drop Advantage
The Thompson Technique is often preferred by patients who are uncomfortable with traditional manual 'twisting' or 'cracking'. The table segments are cocked up and then drop away a short distance when the thrust is delivered. This uses gravity to increase the speed of the adjustment while reducing the amount of force required from the practitioner.
