Hi there

I’m Dr. Jan Jones, Chiropractor.

My goal is to help people live as pain free as possible and then help maintain the results.

With over 20 years experience you are in capable hands.

Silky Oak Chiropractic provides Chiropractic Services to the Carindale, Mansfield and surrounding areas.

I completed my studies in Chiropractic in 2002 in Johannesburg, South Africa with a Masters Degree in Chiropractic – it included research into TMJ (jaw joint) for which I received a Unilever Travel Award from the IDRA. I also presented the research at the national Chiropractic Congress (CASA).

Currently I am also a student at Griffith University studying Physiotherapy.

We moved to Australia in 2009 where practised in Innisfail, Townsville, Bowen and Charters Towers before making Brisbane our home in 2015.

In Brisbane I was locum at various practices before starting Silky Oak Chiropractic.

What do I?

I do Neuro-Musculo-Skeletal treatment for the whole-body linking biomechanics, muscle function and neurology with the goal of restoring or improving function.

How do I treat?

Treatment usually starts with an NIP assessment looking for the primary area. From there I assess the spine as I treat incorporating biomechanical changes, working with compensation patterns, and altering neural input into the brain. Afterwards I reassess and there is usually a noticeable difference in body function.

What techniques do I use?

I believe there is no one perfect technique that works for everybody. Finding what technique works for the patient comes with experience and trial and error. Often a patient has been to various other practitioners and their experience with treatments in the past also guides me to what to use.

Spinal Manipulation using various techniques including Diversified, NIP, Activator, Thompson and Drop Piece Techniques.

Joint Mobilisation using a mixture of Maitland Mobilisation’s, Kalterborne Method, Diversified and Logan Basic.

Soft Tissue Techniques include Sports Massage, Shiatsu, Stripping, ART and others

Dry Needling and Analgesic Acupuncture with or without electricity at times

Electro therapies including TENS, Electro Acupuncture and Ultrasound.

Strapping may be used for various reasons including immobilization, as treatment and neural feedback for retraining with Kinesio taping.

Exercise and Stretching used both in treatment and for home to help maintain the effects of the treatment and may be the treatment of choice for some conditions.

Vibration Therapy is used on most of the patients using a massager. This helps to stimulate various nerves that help to manage pain.

What conditions do I treat?

As mentioned, I treat a host of Neuro-musculo-skeletal conditions – think of joints, muscles and nerves. My approach includes the whole body and often something in the feet may be contributing to neck pain.
